Candidate filing for 2023 Dare County municipal elections begins July 7 – OBX Today

The Dare County Board of Elections has announced that the candidate filing period for the local municipal election will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023 and end at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Dare County Board of Elections Office, which is located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo.

Candidates whose notices of candidacy are accepted will be on their municipality’s ballot for the municipal election that will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Unless otherwise specified, all candidates must be registered to vote in the municipality in which they are running, must have lived in that municipality for 30 days, must be qualified to vote in an election for the office sought and must be 21 years of age by the date of the election. 2023 Voter ID Information:

All registered voters will be allowed to vote with or without a photo ID card. When voting in person, you will be asked to present a valid photo identification card. If you do not have a valid photo ID card, you may obtain one from the Dare County Board of Elections prior to the election and through the end of the early voting period.

If you do not have a valid photo ID card on Election Day, you may still vote and have your vote counted by signing an affidavit of reasonable impediment as to why you have not presented a valid photo ID. Note: An inactive voter is still a registered voter. A voter with the status of inactive will be asked to confirm their physical and mailing addresses when they appear to vote. No special documentation is required.
