Outer Banks winter weather advisory [NWS Newport/Morehead City]

Get yourselves some socks for those sandals, we might be getting a little snow.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for mainland Dare and Hyde counties from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday and for Currituck County from midnight to 9 a.m.

Snowfall predictions [NWS Newport/Morehead City]

Rain is expected to mix with snow late this evening as a coastal low approaches the Outer Banks, bringing high winds, rain and yes, maybe even an inch or two of snow.

The weather service says to plan on slippery road conditions, which could impact the Thursday morning commute.

Wind will also be an issue, with north winds of 25 to 35 mph expected, and gusts 45 to 50 mph, Thursday into Thursday night.

The strong winds could also produce minor coastal flooding from Buxton south to Ocracoke along the Pamlico Sound into Thursday night, with water level rises of 1 to 2 feet above ground a possibility.
