Dare County health officials today reported that the latest local cases are family members of a positive patient reported April 30, and the results are not indicative of community spread.

The county’s total number of cases as of Monday morning remained at 18. The 16th cases was reported as a Dare resident who works out of the county. The 17th and 18th cases are members of that patient’s family, the county said in a news release.

Statewide, there were 11,848 cases of COVID-19 in 99 counties Monday morning. There have been 430 fatalities in North Carolina associated with coronavirus. Currently, the state is reporting 498 hospitalizations across the state from COVID-19 illness.

As phased entry of out-of-town property owners got underway Monday morning, emergency management issued a public safety alert this morning using the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The alert reminded people on the Outer Banks that stay-home order remain in effect and wearing masks in public settings where distancing is difficult is required.

“These alerts will be helpful in ensuring individuals in Dare County are informed of the required measures in place to help reduce the spread of COVID-19,” the county said.
