Artist Aerin Gilday has organized a new GoFundMe fundraiser in efforts to “beautify” the bridge located within the Kitty Hawk Woods with two scenic murals.

This mural collaboration between Estuary Paintworks and Outer Banks Kayak Adventures aims to cover bridge graffiti with scenes of a beautiful Outer Banks ocean sunrise and serene marshes. “A tribute to the beautiful area we call home,” notes information provided within the GoFundMe. Donations made to the online fundraiser will help with material costs to complete the art project.

As of Thursday, August 3, 2023, the GoFundMe total currently sits at $640 of a $3,000 goal that needs to be met in order to complete the project.

A statement provided by organizer Aerin Gilday can be found below:

As a local artist and steward of the marsh, I’m excited to announce the start of a collaborative beautification project in our very own Kitty Hawk Woods. Outer Banks Kayak Adventures as well as several other agencies guide thousands of outdoor-enthusiasts under this bridge each summer. Unfortunately, the bridge has been vandalized with poor and offensive graffiti since it’s recent construction. In an effort to create a beautiful piece of artwork over a local waterway, our crew has imagined and planned two murals that will decorate the underside of this bridge. If youre interested in supporting a group of locals looking to enhance a corner of our beloved home, please consider donating! If you choose to donate to our project, we’ll include your name in a special section of the finished artwork as a thank-you. We’re in the business of beauty, preservation, and genuine love for the place we call home. We’re planning to begin in mid August, and you can expect to see tons of updates and progress posts as we install not one but two, original murals. All donations will go towards materials and equipment that will help us complete this project! We’re excited to do this pair of paintings and it’s important to us that we thank the community that helps all of us do what we love.
