Dare County Library reaches record number of children, teen summer readers in 2022


While numbers don’t tell you about the special conversations, learning experiences, and connections that the Dare County Library makes with it’s patrons, they give you an idea of the nuts and bolts behind it all. Check out what the Library accomplished in 2022:

Items Borrowed: 

  • 156,629 physical items (books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines)
  • 13,304 eBooks and eAudios
  • 2,953 children’s eBooks

Summer Reading Program: 

  • 21,068 children and teen books borrowed (a record!)
  • 2,185 children attended one or more of the 82 programs offered
  • 503 children enrolled and 311 children completed the Summer Reading Challenge

Program Attendance (including in-person & Virtual): 

  • 1,279 adults (Speakers Series, Book Club, etc.)
  • 9,143 children (Storytime, Hooked on Books, Halloween Drive-thru, Santa Drive-Thru, etc.)

General Library:

  • 1,935 new library cards issued
  • 8,832 public computer and Wi-Fi uses
  • 13,773 reference questions were asked and answered
