A small airplane flipped onto its roof Sunday afternoon shortly after landing at the Ocracoke Island Airport.
The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. at the airport, which is part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The single-engine plane came to rest in the grass near the north end of the runway.
The pilot and a passenger were on board and did require transport to the hospital, the National Park Service said in a news release.
The Hyde County Sheriff’s Office and Hyde County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.
