Jason Banks began his educational journey at College of The Albemarle (COA), where he earned an Associate in Science degree, a pivotal step that laid the groundwork for pursuing a doctorate in dental surgery. His decision to attend COA stemmed from its accessibility, affordability, and opportunities to stay connected to his community while preparing for a career in dentistry. When describing his choice to start at COA and then move to other places of higher education, he says, “COA helped me mature academically and allowed me to finish my college career with far less debt than I could have accumulated.”
One of the aspects Jason values most about COA is the dedication of its professors and staff, who not only brought expertise to the classroom but also demonstrated a genuine investment in the student’s success. Jason states, “COA gave me a solid foundation to build my college career. The caring professors provided a great transition from the high school environment to higher institutions.” He recalls how they supported him academically and personally, creating an environment where he felt respected and encouraged.
Jason is now a successful dentist with his own practice in Elizabeth City. His connection to COA remains strong, especially as he recently provided a talented student from COA’s dental assisting program a clinical externship. This opportunity has supported his practice and allowed him to give back by offering real-world experience to a COA graduate. When asked if he would recommend COA, he said, “I would highly recommend it to anyone. ” The advice I have been given and continue to share is “begin with the end in mind,” and COA can help you achieve your goals.”
