Children are invited to celebrate all things bicycles with the Outer Banks Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Coalition, the Dare County Parks & Recreation, Dare County Sheriff’s Department, and the Dare County Trails Committee at the Outer Banks Bike Rodeo this Saturday, October 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Fessenden Center in Buxton.

The Outer Banks Bike Rodeo is free for guests to attend. Local students will be able to navigate challenging courses to show off their safety skills and win prizes! Coalition members and Dare County Sheriff Department will be on-site to promote safe biking.  Best of all, the first 50 participants receive a FREE HELMET!

The Coalition notes that select youth bikes will be available to use, but you can certainly bring your own.

A call for volunteers is also underway. The Coalition hopes that you can volunteer or event bring the family to participate in this fun Fall event and help support the Outer Banks Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Coalition, a valuable community organization working to improve safety in the Outer Banks. Volunteer shifts start 12 p.m. and end at 5 p.m.

We are hoping you could donate at least 2 hours of your time to help with some of the following tasks:

  • Set-up of race course, Coalition tents & equipment

  • Course monitoring and time keeping

  • Helmet fitting & simple bike repair

  • Breakdown of race course, Coalition tents & equipment

  • Simply email vicechair@obxbikeped.org saying “I want to help” and we will get back to you!

The Fessenden Center is located at 46830 NC Hwy 12 in Buxton, North Carolina.
