NOAA begins to hone in on Tropical Storm Helene, Eastern NC could feel impact – OBX Today

With new details released today, the National Weather Service (NOAA) is beginning to track Tropical Storm Helene and its potential impacts that could be seen in Eastern North Carolina.

The NOAA says while the current track would keep the most significant impacts to our west, this will be a large storm and we may still experience at least some effects from the storm. In addition, with saturated soil and elevated water levels now, it wouldn’t take much or much of a shift to cause larger issues for us.

Tropical Storm Helene is expected to become a major hurricane by late Thursday. While significant impacts may remain west of our area, some impacts are still possible in our area. This includes flooding, the threat of tornadoes, and strong winds, especially over the coastal waters south of Cape Hatteras.
