This year’s 150th Anniversary of the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station has been marked by a number of distinctive “firsts.” 2024 marks the first time that the Little Kinnakeet Life-Saving Station opened to the public, and it’s also the first time that multiple Outer Banks Life-Saving Stations have come together to celebrate the arrival of the U.S. Life-Saving Service in North Carolina in 1874.
Another first was going to be the Concert for Chicamacomico set to happen on Thursday 9/19/24 but due to circumstances out of our control, we sadly have to announce the cancellation of the Concert for Chicamacomico. We want to thank all of the bands and musicians who were to be a part of this inaugural event.
Special thanks going out to Grace Waters, Mary Joy McDaniels, Barbara & Bryan Blake, the Sweaters and national recording artist, Skylar Gudasz. Skylar Gudasz recently released a new album, “Country” on August 9, 2024 where she uses the Chicamacomico site as a music video backdrop for her official music video for her song “Lovestorypastlife” off of her new album. You can check out the video here that also features our Chicamacomico Lifesaving beach apparatus drill reenactment team.
We also want to thank the thousands of visitors that come annually to tour the Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station and learn about its rich history. Even though the concert isn’t happening we still want to offer up a chance for you to support the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station by purchasing a commemorative t-shirt and poster of the concert “that never was”. These are for sale for folks who want a cool souvenir, AND A UNIQUE WAY TO SUPPORT THE STATION. You will find these distinctive t-shirts and posters on our website at https://chicamacomico.org All funds will go to benefit the 1874 Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, which is undergoing a major and multi-faceted restoration project. You can also get the t-shirts and posters in our gift shop which is located at 23645 North Carolina Hwy 12, Rodanthe, NC 27968 and open Monday –Friday from 10am-5pm.
