Due to approaching Tropical Storm Debby that is forecast to impact the area, the following postponements/cancellations have been made to various events initially scheduled for this week:

Outer Banks Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Meeting
Dare County has announced that the public meeting that was scheduled to be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the Avon Volunteer Fire Department for members of the community to provide input on the Outer Banks Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan has been postponed due to potentially hazardous weather impacts from Tropical Storm Debby.
In addition, a second public meeting that was to be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Corolla Public Library in Currituck County to provide feedback on the plan has also been postponed.
The new dates and times for these two public meetings will be announced once potential impacts from the storm have passed and the meetings have been rescheduled.
Members of the community are still invited to take a short survey that provides an opportunity to share their opinions and participate in the mitigation planning process. The information provided will help those involved in the Outer Banks Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan update to better understand local hazards, risks and problems and can lead to mitigation activities that help lessen the impacts of future hazards. To complete the survey, which has a deadline of August 30, 2024, please click here.
Keeper James Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Program
The program announced earlier for this Thursday, August 8, has been postponed due to inclement weather; call it “Debby Delayed”. A new date will be announced soon.
