Larceny investigation involving crab pots leads to the arrest of a Gibbs Woods man – OBX Today

On Friday, August 2, Deputies with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office along with Officers from the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries conducted a joint operation to investigate the report of the larceny of crabs from several local commercial fishermen.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., a small boat being operated by David Michael Dixon Jr. of Gibbs Woods was spotted in the area of Troublesome Point on Currituck Sound. Officers converged on the vessel, catching David Dixon Jr. in the act of stealing crabs from pots. Upon NC Marine Fisheries Officers approaching David Dixon Jr., he jumped overboard and attempted to swim away. David Dixon Jr. was quickly apprehended and taken before the Magistrate.

David Dixon Jr.’s vessel was seized, and he was charged with committing the following crimes and violations: Resisting a public officer, Stealing crabs from pots, Unlawful possession of fish, Disposal of Evidence upon approach, Failure to allow inspection, Simple possession of marijuana, Possession of marijuana paraphernalia, Operating a vessel without registration, Operating a vessel at night without lights.

These crimes are still under investigation which may result in additional charges.
