(Submitted/Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce)

The Outer Banks Chamber’s Education Committee recently hosted a Career Technical Exploration Summit at First Flight High School. The purpose of the event was to showcase technical career opportunities by giving students the chance to talk with those who are in those fields. Information shared included salaries, benefits, certifications, opportunities for advancement, internships and more.

Over 100 students participated in the program along with 10 business including our sponsors Kellogg Supply Co. and Outer Banks Pest Control. Other businesses participating were Coastal Animal Hospital, One Hour Heating & Cooling, A.R. Chesson, Suburban Electric, CMIT Solutions, Outer Banks Health, Dare County EMS, and College of the Albemarle.

“What a great opportunity to show students that there are well paying career paths available in our own community that do not require a four-year college education”, said Lynne Miles (Outer Banks Health), Chair of the Chamber’s Education Committee member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber.

The Education Committee is planning additional programs including a Maritime Job Fair, a Soft Skills Summit, and additional Career Tech Summits for all students in our district.
