Tail Waggin’ Tuesday: January 23, 2024 – OBX Today

Are you in search of the perfect fur-ever friend? A new addition to the family, perhaps? OBX Today in partnership with the Outer Banks SPCA is proud to present “Tail Waggin’ Tuesdays.”

Each Tuesday, browse our provided selection of videos and images and follow along as we showcase a variety of pets that are currently awaiting adoption at our local animal shelter.

This week’s featured pets are Penny, Riley, Pluto, Donny, and Zoey. Verbiage is provided by shelter manager Leann Saunders:

Penny
Penny is about a year old. She was brought into our care from a high kill shelter where she was seized by Animal Control for poor living conditions. She is undersocialized but learning to walk on the leash and seems to do well with other dogs! We are hoping she can go into the home with another dog who can help her build trust with people.

Riley
Riley is a little over a year old and was brought into our care from a high kill shelter that no longer had enough room for him. Riley is so friendly and loves other dogs! He would make the perfect companion for an outgoing family!

Bluto
Bluto was here back in October when he was brought into our care as an abandoned stray. He was adopted from our care but sadly returned due to his anxiety. Our guess is that he was a neglected hunting dog so he is now scared of loud noises. He is house trained, crate trained, and does well with both cats and dogs but needs a home where he can have one on one attention to allow him time to understand that the world isn’t so scary.

Donny & Zoey
Donny and Zoey were brought into our care after a 7 month long court case. Their previous owner moved and left them outside. Donny was tied to a tree and Zoey was left in a small crate behind the home. Now that we have them in our custody they have been fully vetted and deserve so much better than they are used too. Donny knows basic commands and is coming out of his shell showing us his goofy personality! Zoey is still a little timid but did have to have emergency surgeries for her to make it out alive.

To adopt a shelter animal, visit the Outer Banks SPCA Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or give them a call at 252-475-5620.

This month’s sponsor of Tail Waggin’ Tuesday is Hatteras Island Pet Resort.
