Happy New Year! As we step into 2024, we at Coastal Humane Society want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the past year. Your dedication to our cause has been instrumental in making 2023 a year of significant impact and meaningful achievements for pets and their families in the Outer Banks.
A Year in Review: Our 2023 Milestones
Your support has enabled us to reach remarkable milestones in our mission to improve the lives of pets. Here’s a glimpse of what we achieved together in 2023:
Extensive Support for Pets and Families: This year, we reached a significant milestone by assisting 589 pets from 415 families, ensuring that financial hardships did not break the bond they share with their beloved pets.
Spay and Neuter Initiatives: Our commitment to responsible pet ownership led to the spaying and neutering of 92 pets, playing a vital role in managing the pet population and promoting animal welfare.
Medical Assistance for Pets: We provided essential medical aid to 147 pets, encompassing emergency care, surgeries, and other costly treatments, affirming our dedication to pet health and well-being.
Vaccination Clinics Success: Our efforts to safeguard pets’ health continued with 358 pets receiving vital vaccinations at a discounted cost. We proudly hosted 8 clinics throughout 2023, including 2 special events on Hatteras Island.
Heartworm Testing and Treatment: In partnership with the Outer Banks Community Foundation, a total of 222 heartworm tests were administered free of charge through the Help A Dog’s Heart program. We also ensured heartworm prevention for 11 pets and treated 5 pets affected by this serious condition.
Community Support and Partnerships:
- We extended our helping hand beyond our immediate vicinity by donating $600 to the Maui Humane Society in aid of pets impacted by the Lahaina fires.
- In a significant contribution to Dare County’s Operation Homeless Cats program, we provided 750 FVRCP vaccines, collaborating closely with OBX SPCA.
- Understanding the broader needs of our community, we distributed pet food to various food pantries, including the Beach Food Pantry and the YMCA Mobile Food Pantry.
Looking Ahead to 2024
As we step into 2024, our commitment to enhancing the lives of pets and their families in the Outer Banks remains stronger than ever. We are excited to expand our reach and deepen our impact, and your continued partnership is vital to achieving these goals. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, every contribution makes a difference.
