The Town of Manteo is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Chief. Applications are available on the town’s website or at Town Hall located at 407 Budleigh Street and will be accepted through November 30, 2023.
Town Manager Melissa Dickerson will lead the interview committee and be assisted in the search by two long-time law enforcement experts: Retired State Bureau of Investigation Agent Bill Godley and Major Scott Parker with the Wake County Sheriff Department. Both committee members have signed confidentiality agreements as part of their commitment to a thorough interview process. Short biographies of both committee members are included below describing the relevant professional experience that speaks to each of their expertise and related knowledge in the field of law enforcement.
Bill Godley
Bill Godley is a permanent resident of the Town of Manteo. He retired from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation after 30 years of service as the Special Agent in Charge for the Northeastern District. Mr. Godley also retired from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office as a lieutenant overseeing criminal investigations and drug operations and currently remains a sworn auxiliary officer. Throughout his career and retirement, Mr. Godley taught numerous Basic Law Enforcement Training classes and Continuing Education programs for police officers. Mr. Godley is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy and of the North Carolina Administrative Officers Management Program.
Scott Parker
Scott Parker is a native and forever resident of Nash County, North Carolina. Mr. Parker currently serves as the Major for Homeland Security and Special Operations for the Wake County Sheriff Department. Prior to his role with Wake County, he served as a Deputy Commissioner for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. Mr. Parker was the first African-American to serve as a U.S. Marshal in the Eastern District of North Carolina. He has served as the Narcotics Division Commander of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office and Assistant Commander with the Roanoke Chowan Narcotics Task Force in Hertford County. Mr. Parker served with the Nashville Police Department from 1987 to 1989. He is a graduate of the FBI Academy and North Carolina’s Criminal Investigators’ Academy at the North Carolina Justice Academy. Mr. Parker is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award.
