Bryan Cultural Series presents $5,000 check to support Juneteenth event – OBX Today

The Pea Island Preservation Society, Inc. (PIPSI) is delighted to announce a significant contribution in support of their upcoming Juneteenth event. Dianne Denny, President of the Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series, presented a generous $5,000 check to Joan Collins, Director of Outreach and Education at PIPSI and other members of the PIPSI Board.

The event, titled “The Sounds of Freedom,” will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm, at the Pea Island Cookhouse Museum in Manteo. , Tshombe Selby, a beloved Manteo native and tenor with the Metropolitan Opera, will return to sing The Sounds of Freedom  to celebrate the national holiday, Juneteenth.   Since this year the holiday falls on Monday, the concert will be held on Saturday to allow more people the opportunity to attend.  Tshombe’s return marks the third consecutive year PIPSI has held this free outdoor event at the Cookhouse Museum located at Collins Park.  Based on past feedback received, another great crowd is expected this year.

Joan Collins, a dedicated member of PIPSI, expressed gratitude for the support received from Dianne Denny and the Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series. Their ongoing commitment has played a pivotal role in making the Juneteenth event a resounding success year after year.

The $5000 contribution will help further enhance the event, ensuring that attendees have an unforgettable experience. The funds will be allocated towards various aspects of the celebration, such as performances, logistics, and community engagement initiatives.
