Local funeral home chosen for career shadow program

The Guidance and Internship Office of first Flight High School has invited Gallop Funeral Services, Inc./Gallop Memorial Chapel to participate in its annual job shadow program.

Seniors accepted into the program are matched with a local business or professional who immerses the student for one school day in an occupation of particular interest to the student. First Flight senior Oliver Parks will be shadowing Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. founder and owner, Courtney N. Gallop for his authentic day in funeral service

According to First Flight Internship coordinator, Camie Romano the goals for the job shadow experience are to :

  • Give the student familiarity with the duties associated with that occupation, the physical setting of the occupation, and the compatibility of the occupation with his or her own career goals.
  • Develop an awareness of the educational and technical skills required for entry and advancement in a specific occupation.
  • Provide a relevant experience outside the classroom that allows employers can contribute to the education of youth and help prepare students for future career opportunities.

Gallop says she will require the shadowing participant to don professional dress and demonstrate basic interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and inquisitiveness. “We are excited to give Oliver a brief but realistic glimpse into the challenging and ever changing funeral service work environment. A regular day can change from mundane to hectic and unpredictable with one phone call.”

Gallop Funeral Services, Inc and Gallop Memorial Chapel have actively been a member of the Currituck Chamber of Commerce since the company’s founding in Nags Head in 2006.
