Spring is here. Time to get off the couch and start doing – running, walking, just getting outside in the fresh air. Run by yourself.  Run with your family. Outer Banks Sporting Events (OBXSE) proudly presents the Running of the Leprechauns 5K & 10K taking place on Saturday, March 18th at 8 a.m., sponsored by Mike Kelly’s Outer Banks Catering Group and the famous yearly Kelly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The Running of the Leprechauns is a yearly, community event that will start at Satterfield Park in Nags Head and the finish is next to International Tile beside Satterfield Park. Bib pick up is on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Swells’a brewery on the Beach road or on Friday morning @ 7 a.m. on site. The awards ceremony is set to occur at 9:30 a.m. at the finish line.

Beyond being a fun event that encourages people to walk or run – but just to come out and have some fun, there will be medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female overall for both races, as well as prizes for best dressed, appropriately costumed male and female runner to be chosen by Mike Kelly, so it’s a fun time for families to get into the Irish spirit and show their love for the wearing of the green!  And on St. Paddy’s Weekend, everyone is Irish!

Don’t forget the after-party! Stick around after the races for Mike Kelly’s famous Irish stew and even more famous sweet potato biscuits, paired with a trip around the beer garden for those 21+. The Beer Garden opens at 9 a.m.  There will be award medals for everyone who finishes the race.   For information on registering for the Running of the Leprechauns 5K & 10K, go to www.obxse.com. We’ll see you all at the starting line!

OBXSE was started in 2005 by Mike Kelly with the idea of providing the community with a new event that would bring the county together, be healthy, be a partnership for non-profits and businesses, and bring visitors to the Outer Banks.  Eighteen years later, OBSE mission is still to organize sporting events and competitions, promote healthy living lifestyles and provide financial resources for needed local non-profits, all while contributing to the economic health of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

As an organization, they are able to bring together several non-profit organizations to help promote a healthy Outer Banks lifestyle for all who live here.  For more information on all events or on how you can help go to www.obxse.com, or call 252-599-6997.
