Evans Building demolition set to begin this week in Manteo, temporary road closures in place

According to a Sunday evening update from the Town of Manteo, East Coast Demolition will be delivering machinery to the former Evans Building located at 100 Old Tom Avenue for the purposes of demolishing the building beginning today, Monday, August 8.

For those not familiar with the building, it is located across from Ortegaz, and the back of the property faces the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum and Boat House. The property will be accessed using Agona Street with assistance from the Manteo Police Department (MPD).

There will be a temporary closure of portions of Agona and Fernando Streets mid-morning while the equipment is being unloaded onto the street and then on to the property.  MPD will remain on site and make sure the truck is able to depart the downtown area in a safe manner.

Site work is scheduled to begin the next day on Tuesday, August 9th and may take up to 7 to 10 days to complete barring no weather or other unforeseen delays. There will be construction fencing around the site.

During this time, Old Tom Street will be closed, so no parking will be allowed there.  The Town will have barricades in place along with posting notices on site and on cars parked in the area.
