Refuge staff conducted nest box surveys for prothonotary warblers (also known as golden swamp warblers) recently at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and found the first nest of the season.
This collaborative research is led by partners at Chowan University and was funded by the National Wildlife Refuge Association.
The project is documenting long-term reproductive success and breeding activities of this species across northeastern North Carolina and provides research opportunities for undergraduate students at Chowan University.
