Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County’s Week of the Young Child kicks off April 2

The Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County non-profit organization in association with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has announced it’s 5-day celebration for The Week of the Young Child (WOYC).

The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the needs of young children and their families, and to ensure that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that will promote their healthy growth and development.

To raise awareness, the Dare County organization has organized five days of festive themes that can also serve as learning tools and stimulating factors to take part in with your children. They are as followed:

  • Music Monday: more than singing and dancing, it’s a way to encourage children to be active while developing early literacy skills and having fun with friends and family!
  • Tasty Tuesday: isn’t just about eating favorite snacks together. It’s also about cooking together and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing
ways to incorporate healthy habits into children’s lifestyles.
  • Work Together Wednesday: When children build together they experience team- work and develop their social and early literacy skills.
  • Artsy Thursday: Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine muscles with open-ended art projects that let them make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands.
  • Family Friday: Parents and families are children’s first teachers. Family Friday focuses on engaging families to support our youngest learners.
