Dare County Sherriff’s Office announces more drug-related arrests

The Dare County Sherriff’s Office made a pair of drug-related arrests earlier this week.

On March 1, 2022, at approximately 7:21 pm, Deputies working the A-District conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near 1341 Colington Rd, Colington, NC.

During the traffic stop a Dare County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was deployed and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance. The vehicle was searched, and an amount of Heroin, Marijuana, Clonazepam, Buprenorphine and drug paraphernalia was located and seized.

Michael James Hurley, 33, of Kitty Hawk, was arrested and charged with felony Possession of Schedule I, misdemeanor Possessions of Schedule III, IV, VI, and misdemeanor Possessions of Drug and Marijuana Paraphernalia.

Hurley was released on a $9,000 secured bond.

On March 2, 2022, at approximately 12:37 a.m., deputies working the A-District conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the Wright Memorial Bridge. Consent was given to search the vehicle and an amount of Cocaine and Drug Paraphernalia were located and seized.

Billy Charles Hopkins Jr., 68, Currituck, was arrested for felony Possession of Cocaine and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released on a $4,000 secured bond.
