Strong southerly winds out ahead of a powerful cold front crossing the state will bring the possibility of soundside flooding and high surf to the Outer Banks during the early morning hours on Friday.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for soundside areas from Buxton to Duck from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m., where water levels could rise one to two feet above ground.

The High Surf Advisory is posted for Friday from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. for large breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet, mainly along the south-facing beaches from Buxton to Ocracoke.

A Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m to 1 p.m. for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands for sustained southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts that could to 45 mph.
