If you’ve got a security camera on your home that looks east, you may want to check to see if it captured a brief celestial event early Tuesday.

Waterlily resident and photographer Kristina Ulloa shared a brief video with us of a fireball dropping out of the sky over Corolla just before 3:30 a.m. You can even see the fireball’s reflection on the Currituck Sound before it disappeared.

A fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the planet Venus in the morning or evening sky.

Ulloa already reported her sighting to the American Meteor Society, which tracks fireballs around the world, at https://fireball.amsmeteors.org/members/imo/report_intro. There were no other reports as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, but if you saw it or have video, just let us know by email or on our social media pages.
