Two escape uninjured from house fire in lower Currituck County

An adult and a child escaped uninjured after a house adjacent to the Colonial Beach neighborhood in lower Currituck County caught fire Friday evening.

Lower Currituck Fire Rescue was called to the 100 block of Sweetbriar Lane in Jarvisburg at 5:50 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the rear of the single-story house elevated on pilings was fully involved.

The fire was brought under control around 40 minutes later.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it may have originated near an electrical outlet on the outside of the home, according to Lower Currituck VFD Chief Vernon Hart.

Units from the Crawford, Moyock, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk and Corolla fire department, along with Currituck Fire and EMS and the Currituck Sheriff’s Office also responded, and the scene was cleared at 8:30 p.m.
