Operation Feed Our Pets distributes more than 10,000 lbs. of pet food during pandemic

Feline Hope, Friends of Felines Hatteras Island, and the Coastal Humane Society joined together to form Operation Feed Our Pets as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Outer Banks in 2020, and the combined organizations have distributed more than 10,000 pounds of pet food and cat litter since the initiative began.

“Our goal was to keep dog food, cat food, and cat litter stocked in our local food banks so residents could always get food and supplies for their furry family members,” stated the organizations in a press release.

“We are pleased to report that – in the past 21 months– we distributed over 10,000 lbs. of pet food and litter through every Dare County food bank along with several Drive-thru Food Pantries.”

“Our efforts would not have been possible without the support of the Outer Banks Community Foundation, PetSmart, and our friends and neighbors. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Coastal Humane Society, Feline Hope, and Friends of Felines Hatteras Island are all small volunteer 501(c)3 organizations that help Dare County dogs and cats, pet owners, and caretakers through multiple community-wide programs. The collective groups continue to watch for animal welfare needs in the Outer Banks region, and respond quickly to help however they can.

Monetary donations continue to be accepted by all three organizations, and folks can contribute via the following websites:
