The Graveyard of the Atlantic continues to live up to its reputation, as another vessel has washed up on an Outer Banks beach.
Over the last two weeks, trawlers have run into trouble off Frisco and Southern Shores and eventually ended up in the breakers.
While the F/V Johnathan Ryan was refloated and steamed away several hours after grounding off Ramp 48, the F/V Bald Eagle II remains in the surf near Trout Run and the N.C. 12/Ocean Blvd. intersection.
This time its a small sailboat, the Alhambra, with a lone person onboard that ended up beached near Tigrone Blvd. north of Avon Pier early Saturday, according to the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad.
According to data at MarineTraffic.com, the Alhambra was traveling southbound fairly close to shore and made an attempt to enter Oregon Inlet, then continued to head south before it grounded.
The master of the Alhambra was helped to shore and found accommodations for the night. We’ll have updates on this situation as they become available.
