A GoFundMe account has been established for the Roanoke Island mother and daughter that died in a shooting last week in Elizabeth City.
According to an Elizabeth City Police Department press release, officers were called to the 500 block of Perry and Jordan streets Thursday at 5:02 p.m. to a report of shots being fired.
Witnesses told The Daily Advance they heard multiple gunshots that sounded like they came from different weapons and the victims were inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, police encountered several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
De’Shay Berry, 39, and Allura Pledger, 3, both from Manteo, and Jaquan White, 18, of Elizabeth City, succumbed to their injuries. Three people, all from Elizabeth City, were also wounded.
This is still an active investigation and the Elizabeth City Police Department urges anyone with any information to contact the Elizabeth City Police Department at (252) 335-4321 or the Crime Line at (252) 335-5555. All information will remain anonymous and strictly confidential.
More from the GoFundMe post:
Hi. My name is Andrecia Vespa. I am the sister of Von C. Pledger, Jr. On the evening of December 2, 2021, I received a call from Von, in hysterics. He was working in Wisconsin and had just learned that his 3-yr-old baby girl, Allura Pledger, and her mother, Takeyia De’Shay Berry, were both shot and killed, along with 2 other adults, in Elizabeth City, NC. At this time, the reason for their deaths is “in the wrong place, at the wrong time.” Takeyia was always willing to help out someone who needed help. Some “friends” needed assistance and she and the baby were killed senselessly in her giving that assistance.
Takeyia always smiled. She had a natural love for people. She was very generous and caring and she loves her daughters. She leaves a beautiful young teenager to mourn the loss of her mother and baby sister. Allura was beautiful, bright-eyed, loving and so very smart. She loved her Mommy and her Daddy. The time we had her were 3 very short, precious years. Heaven is rejoicing at their arrival and weeping at our loss. It is so very painful to lose these irreplaceable lives.
Funds are needed to help with their funerals. For those who can assist, thank you so much for your assistance and your prayers. For those who have the heart to assist, but cannot at this time, please pray for the Pledger and Berry families. God Bless.
