A man and woman from Elizabeth City have been charged in connection with the overdose death of a woman in Southern Shores in 2020.

On December 2, 2020, Southern Shores police officers responded to a residence on Ocean Blvd for an overdose death of 33-year-old Jessica Leigh Musick.

After an extensive investigation, felony death by distribution and sell/deliver heroin charges have been filed against Christopher Robert Evans, 49, according to a news release.

Evans was already in custody on other charges and remains at the Dare County Detention Center.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 32-year-old Tahnee Raquel Musick for conspiracy to sell and/or deliver heroin. She was a relative of the victim, and was still at large on Tuesday.

“She is encouraged to turn herself into law enforcement,” said Southern Shores Police Chief David M. Kole. “We would like to thank the District Attorney’s office and Dare County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case.”
