An early morning fire extensively damaged a home in Kill Devil Hills, three days after a blaze that burned an 18-bedroom oceanfront home to the ground.
At 2:03 a.m., the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire around the 900 block of W. Martin Street. Fire crews from Colington and Nags Head fire departments, along with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS also arrived on the scene to assist with the operation.
When the first unit arrived on the scene, there was fire coming through the roof and eaves of the garage, the town said in a news release. The fire was extinguished; however, extensive damage occurred to the structure.
No one was injured and the American Red Cross was notified to assist the occupants.
The Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal is investigating to determine the fire origin and cause.
It’s been a busy week for area emergency crews. Early Sunday morning, a fire on the oceanfront destroyed a $5 million, 18-bedroom home, several cars and left serious damage to several nearby buildings. Dozens of vacationers staying in the house were displaced. No one was injured.
The cause of that blaze has not been determined.
