Fire destroyed a large vacation home in Kill Devil Hills overnight, spreading to other buildings and cars and forcing the evacuation of some nearby condos and houses.

It appears no one was hurt in the blaze, which engulfed an 18-bedroom oceanfront home at 2031 S. Virginia Dare Trail, near the Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head line on Virginia Dare Trail. The fire spread to the pool house at the TownePlace Suites pool and destroyed several cars.

Sheila Davies, Dare County’s Director of Health and Human Services, said in public Facebook post that her family received a knock on their condo door about 4 a.m. to evacuated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation thi and the Beach Road was closed until late this morning as crews doused hotspots. Those evacuated from nearby homes and condos were allowed back in their homes around 8 a.m.

The vacation home, valued at $4.9 million, was completely destroyed.
