A local group that’s been planting beach grass over the past four winters along the Outer Banks has reached a milestone.

Better Beaches OBX announced Monday they have been able to create a vegetated dune line in front of all Kitty Hawk oceanfront properties.

And they aren’t done yet. Here’s more from the Better Beaches OBX Facebook page:

We did it! Who would have thought that we would be able to created a vegetated dune line throughout Kitty Hawk, in front of all the properties – within four years of Kitty Hawk’s very first Beach Nourishment project? Well, with the help of many amazing people – we did just that, and finished this year! 3.5 miles of Beach Grass, over 10 feet wide in most areas, has been planted and is growing as we speak! We will be planting behind (West of) it, in late April, to further bolster the New Dune. We will be taking donations to purchase the Sea Oats soon – so if you want to get involved by either donating or planting, send us a message! We’re excited at this amazing opportunity!
