Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative has scheduled maintenance work for Monday that will affect power to southern Hatteras Island and Ocracoke.
Following an outage at 7:30 a.m. lasting about five minutes for the tri-villages and Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke will be powered by diesel generators while a new circuit breaker is installed in Buxton.
The co-op routinely schedules work of this nature when power demand on the islands is at its lowest, but they ask that customers try to conserve electricity while the grid is on generators as a precaution.
