The National Park Service will be mowing the fuel break that runs under the Dominion Energy transmission lines through South Nags Head in the coming weeks.
The power lines that feed Hatteras and Ocracoke islands run along the border of Nags Head and Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The fuel break underneath the high voltage lines is designed to protect properties in South Nags Head from wildfires that could develop in the marshlands that make up a majority of the Bodie Island unit of the seashore.
The mowing is expected to be completed within a few days after it begins.
