The Dare County school district has opened enrollment for a virtual learning option ahead of a decision on whether to return students to in-person classes.
The county’s Board of Education meets Oct. 1 to decide after Gov. Roy Cooper announced last week that school districts now have the option to return students in grades K-5.
“We realize that the decision to return to in-person learning is complicated, and families may have extenuating circumstances that make this a difficult decision,” school officials said in an announcement Monday. That is why we will offer parents the opportunity to enroll their child into our virtual learning option when and if the decision to return to in-person learning is made.”
In an unofficial poll on OBXToday.com earlier this month, more than 800 readers responded, with 58 percent saying they would send their students back to school if Dare County votes to return to in-person learning, while 29 percent said they would not. Thirteen percent said they were undecided.
