The remnants of Hurricane Laura, which devastated the Gulf coast of western Louisiana overnight as a Category 4 storm, will reach eastern North Carolina this weekend.

Laura was downgraded to a tropical storm Thursday as it continued pushing inland towards Arkansas, with the remnants expected to reach here later Saturday.

The remnants are expected to link up with a cold front and bring a severe weather threat Saturday afternoon or early evening, the National Weather Service said.

Damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two will be possible.
