Hyde County Health Director Luana Gibbs on Wednesday announced the county’s first official laboratory-confirmed case of coronavirus, and said this time the test has been properly vetted.
Hyde has twice before reported coronavirus cases. The first time, the person was found not to have been in, or lived in, the county. The second false positive was the result of a state laboratory error.
The individual in the latest case is in isolation. Communicable disease staff have conducted contact tracing, identified individuals who may have had close contact with the individual, and implemented quarantine recommendations and orders. Close contact is anyone who has been within six feet of the individual for more than 10 minutes. To protect the privacy of all individuals, no further information will be released.
Currituck County has now climbed to five coronavirus cases, according to statistics released Wednesday by North Carolina Health and Human Services. Dare County appears to remain at 15 cases, a number that hasn’t changed in two weeks.
