The Outer Banks community is coming together to provide free dinners, community-wide, twice per week.
Spearheaded by John and Sue Woolard of Rooster’s Southern Kitchen, Community Curbside Suppers launches on Thursday, April 2. Meals will be offered to Outer Banks neighbors at no charge, two evenings per week, in the parking lot of Rooster’s Southern Kitchen located at MP 8 ¾ in Kill Devil Hills.
Curbside pick-up will be set up and volunteers will be in place to distribute meals and maintain traffic flow. The drive-up service allows individuals and families to receive meals with minimal contact and without leaving the vehicle. A designated “safe area” for pedestrians and cyclists will also be available. Volunteers will be screened (CDC guidelines) by healthcare professionals before they may participate.
During this difficult time, anyone is welcome to grab a free meal to take home and supplement their needs.
While it may be a temporary relief initiative for our Outer Banks community, the goal is to keep this going for as long as possible, with the help of future sponsors. The Rooster’s Southern Kitchen staff will be preparing the meals however many volunteers are needed to make this possible. Sponsors are encouraged to help offset packaging and food costs. “In light of the current COVID 19 restrictions, all are feeling the effects of massive unemployment. Our initial concern was that there will be many people without adequate or suitable food for their families,” said Sue Woolard. “We have a large kitchen and a centrally located business that we don’t want to sit idle in this time of need. Hopefully the recent government stimulus will begin to bridge the gap, but until we understand this, we want to help. Our hope is to serve a minimum of 500 meals per night at no charge. This is meant for anyone who would benefit from a couple meals per week.”
