As many of you may know, the Outer Banks has been closed to nonresidents. At this point in time, the only people allowed across the bridges onto the Outer Banks are permanent residents, non-resident property owners and non-resident employees of Dare County businesses

It is apparent why the Dare County Control group, who made this decision, did so. In their letter addressing closing the county they wrote, “These restrictions may be inconvenient, disappointing and have financial impacts, however, they were made in the interest of public safety to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

To date, there have been no cases of the disease reported anywhere on the Outer Banks. That includes Corolla and Ocracoke. There can be little doubt that the decision that was made to keep it that way.

We can only hope—perhaps pray—that their decision is the right one.

It is, however, a sad day for us here at Brindley Beach Vacations and for everyone on the Outer Banks. We pride ourselves in being a community that welcomes everyone to what we think is one of the most wondrous places on earth. It is, of course, how we earn a living; but it is also who and what we are.

We’ll get through this, as a community and as a nation because of who and what we are—resilient, stronger than we often think we are and able to overcome remarkable challenges.

It won’t be easy, but the sun keeps rising and setting each day and with it all those amazing colors that are part of the beauty of this special place. And soon enough, almost like magic, cars will once again be crossing the Wright Memorial Bridge and we’ll be here to welcome you.

In the meantime, we’ll still let you know what’s happening on the Outer Banks, post some pictures of its beauty and let you know that we’re doing just fine.
