Prepare to see ‘significant smoke’ from prescribed fire near Manns Harbor

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a prescribed burn today, Saturday, Feb. 29, covering more than 5,000 acres near Manns Harbor.

The fire will extend from U.S. Route 64 behind Manns Harbor to Point Peter Road, about two-thirds of the way to Stumpy Point. The wildlife service says area residents should “be prepared to see significant smoke.”

The burn will provide fire protection to both communities as well as improve wildlife habitat in the area.
