Unincorporated Dare County, including Hatteras Island, Roanoke Island, Manns Harbor, Stumpy Point, East Lake, Colington and Martin’s Point:
Dare County Public Works staff will begin debris removal on Monday, September 16 inside the gate at Colington Harbor. Homeowners in these areas are asked to place all debris in right-of-way by 6 a.m. Monday morning as the County only has resources available to make one pass through each neighborhood.

Upon completion of debris removal in Colington Harbor, staff will begin working in Martin’s Point. Storm debris removal in Martin’s Point is anticipated to begin Thursday, September 19 but this date is subject to change. A schedule for other areas of unincorporated Dare County will be released as soon as details are finalized.

Storm related debris should be placed into 4 SEPARATE PILES onto the right-of-way at least 30 feet from fire hydrants.

Until then, residents are urged to place debris in separate piles that consist of either vegetative debris, construction and demolition debris, or white goods (appliances). Please do not place any debris on the actual street pavement, and keep it 30 feet from fire hydrants. By segregating the types of debris residents will have their piles picked up on schedule without further delay.

This pickup is for storm generated debris only. The annual bulk /large item pickup is a separate pickup and will occur in October. Please save the household bulk items for that fall pickup.

Town of Duck
The Town of Duck will be contracting storm debris removal. This pick-up is limited to debris related specifically to Hurricane Dorian. Expected pickup dates will be posted soon. Yard and household debris generated by convenience clearing is not eligible for pick-up. All storm generated debris must be placed street side on the right-of-way. Please be sure there is clearance above the debris so that the trucks can easily pick it up.

Residents should separate the debris as follows:

  • VEGETATIVE DEBRIS (whole trees, tree stumps, tree branches, tree trunks)
  • CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION DEBRIS (damaged components of buildings and structures such as shingles, siding, and fence boards)

Please do not place appliances or hazardous material out for this pickup. The annual fall bulk pickup is scheduled for October 18.
